![]() The film was based on the experiences of Billy Hayes, a young American busted at the Turkish border with hashish and sentenced to life for his crime. He talks in an entertaining, very compelling voice about his rise in the seventies, virtually overnight to becoming both an Academy Award and Golden Globe winning screen writer for Midnight Express (1978). Stone tells his story of his journey through surviving the jungles of Viet Nam, his conflict with his father, and his up and down and soaring ride through the very different jungles of Hollywood. ![]() ![]() “Chasing the Light” is an astonishing book, so why would I be sad when I finished? It was a little thing I dubbed the boss project. ![]() But I figured maybe I'd enjoy proving him wrong. I didn't really want to work in a place where my boss expected me to fail. ![]() It seemed his board was making him fill the position, against his wishes. Turned out, Merrick only wanted to hire me because I was the least competent candidate. I needed to know why I was even in consideration after our disastrous start. But somehow an invitation to a second interview arrived in my inbox.īefore I left, I asked to see Merrick. I obviously didn't expect to get the job. In my defense, I'd been stuck on a hot train for two hours and wanted to make sure I didn't smell. Okay, so maybe I hadn't exactly been changing when he walked in on me. Until we wound up bickering again during my interview and he told me to go sniff my armpit. After an argument while standing in my bra, I proceeded to smash the door into the gorgeous jerk, trying to yank it shut.Īs you might imagine, I was freaked out when I discovered that the rude guy was my potential new boss. Well, technically, I'd met him twenty minutes earlier when he'd barged into a fitting room a few doors down from my appointment. The first time I met Merrick Crawford was during my job interview. Not since Unearthly has a love triangle been so dragged out to agonizing nonresolution until the very fucking end. But seriously, there was no fucking point to the love triangle, and I wanted to bash my head in every time the WONDERFUL BESTEST BOYFRIEND EVER Ryan clashed with BROODING HIPSTER ASSHOLE (with a heart of gold) David. I absolutely adored the main character, the relationships and the friendships were wonderfully written, the high school kids were just plain cute. Nothing of importance happens in this book. This book may be really, really cute, but overall, it's just an overextended love triangle without much of a plot. I did not have butterflies over David Stark.25% of the way in, I was sure I would give this book a 4, but I ended up wanting to fling this book at Harper's head. Once again, my chest tightened, and there was that weird fluttering sensation that was like butterflies. ![]() ![]() ![]() It’ll be worth it, if Chloe can drag Shara back before graduation to beat her fair-and-square. Description for The Secret Garden (Puffin Classics) Paperback. ![]() ![]() Why a character listens to a complete lecture of an historical subject he/she already knows? Well, because the reader does not know, but I kept wondering, during my lecture, why no one stop anyone when they keep narrating a subject everyone already knows. The reason is simple, sometimes, while the characters speak together, they do not seem to actually “talk” with each other but are mostly sharing information. Since Hobb create a lot of interesting characters and make them progress in a long story, I find the dialogues /monologues aberrant. ![]() Maybe it is just concerning the Livership Traders Trilogy, but I cannot deal with the dialogues. I will address only one point: the storytelling. As I said, I did read a lot of Hobb’s works, but I did not find them to be as perfect as I can read from almost all the reviews I could find of her stories. As I finished the first book of the Liveship Traders Trilogy, I think I found my problem with Hobb’s writing.īefore anything, I want to point out that this is not a critic to show how Robin Hobb’s books are bad. ![]() ![]() Still, I kept my weird feeling about Hobb’s writing. I still completed the whole collection of books based on Fitz since I did had pleasure in discovering the progression of a character in such a long timeline. While looking for some diverse point of views about the works of Robin Hobb, I started to believe I was just not the target of the story. I struggled most of the time with how the plots were set in the story. My reading of Fitz’ adventures left me with a weird feeling. ![]() ![]() He's honest, forthright, caring and I can say that he respects Kaylee and the decisions she makes. Also Nash isn't very interesting, I prefer Tod at least I can say things about his character. ![]() I'm liking Nash a little more due to his protective nature though that isn't really explained, does he like/love Kaylee? We never hear any declarations or what he likes about her, just how much he wants her physically. Over and over again we had hear how she couldn't let those poor souls suffer, OK well get on with saving them then! Seeing more of Tod and his life before his death was a real bonus, his character really interested me in the first book. The evil soul-stealing Dekker Media reminded me of Disney with the insane amount of control they have over their stars. ![]() The scary things like the literal "blades of grass" and the fiends were inventive.
